Finding Resilency in the wake of Orlando

Finding Resilency in the wake of Orlando

In the wake of the Orlando tragedy, we must bounce back, stronger and more resolved to promote our inalienable American rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
But how do we do that when we’re feeling so overwhelmed with grief?.
Resiliency is the capacity of humans to absorb and spring back stronger from the crush of a traumatic event.
All humans beings have it. It’s hard wired into our central nervous systems. To tap into it we need to engage in the following activities.
1. Find your voice: Connect with others and speak your mind.
2.Get into action: The default position is to remain paralyzed. Push through the weight of that force. The world needs you in it not hiding from it.
3. Set goals: Short range and long term. Short range is to make it through the day or to call your mother and tell her you love her. Long range is to promote peace in your workplace, home or neighborhood.
4. Be physical: The best way to discharge negative emotions is to work them out physically. Resist the urge to sit on the sofa watching the news. Take a walk, run or get to the gym.
5. Smile at others: Be kind and gentle to the people you encounter. Everyone is struggling with the horror of the event. Connect with them in the incredibly healing force of empathy and compassion.
